Building Explosive Power for Real-World Athleticism
Raw strength is essential, but athleticism lives in how quickly you can express it. Power — force applied fast — is what lets you jump higher, sprint faster, and hit harder. The good news: it's trainable at any level.
Build Strength First
You can't express power you don't have. A solid base of maximal strength gives you more force to accelerate. That's why I anchor every athlete's program in compound lifts before layering in explosive work.
Train Speed Intentionally
Jumps, medicine-ball throws, sprints, and olympic-lift variations teach the nervous system to fire fast and recruit muscle explosively. Quality beats quantity here — every rep should be crisp, fully recovered, and fast.
Respect Recovery
Power work is neurologically demanding. I keep sets short, rest generous, and volume controlled so every effort is high-quality. Grinding out fatigued reps builds bad habits, not speed.
Train power the right way and you'll feel it everywhere — a springier step, a faster first move, and the kind of athleticism that makes everyday movement effortless.
